According to The Telegraph, Toby Alderweireld is set to leave Tottenham Hotspur to join Qatari side Al-Duhail after the two clubs reached an agreement over the transfer.
The move is still subject to agreeing personal terms and a medical, but the 32-year-old defender is set to fly to the Middle East to complete the final necessities which should signal the end of his six-year stay in North London. If everything goes as planned, Spurs will cash in £13 million from the sale of the player whose contract would otherwise have two years left to run.
The experienced Belgium international joined Spurs in 2015 from Atletico Madrid for a reported fee of €16m. Having started out at the youth setup at Beerschot, he quickly joined the famous academy at Ajax, rising through their ranks to earn first-team promotion in 2009. For years later, he moved on to Atletico and spent the first season on the books of the current La Liga champions on loan at Southampton. He has one La Liga title, four Eredivisie titles and two Dutch Cup winner’s medals. He failed to win any major honours with Spurs, coming closest in 2019 when the team commanded by Mauricio Pochettino reached the Champions League final.
