Alessandro Nesta vows to play on
Milan defender Alessandro Nesta has denied reports that he plans to retire from football at the end of the season.
The 35-year-old has had his share of injury problems this season, which fueled speculations that he could decide to end his playing career at the end of the season.
However, the World Cup winner is adamant that he can play on for at least one more season.
“I have no intention of quitting just yet,” Nesta told Il Gazzetta dello Sport. “I don’t have that desire.”
The veteran defender had a big role to play in Milan’s title-winning season last term and he expects more success this season.
“I’m convinced that Milan will win something important again this season,” Nesta continued.
“We are the favourites to win the Scudetto and we would be favourites in the Champions League too if Barcelona weren’t in it…”
Casemiro’s agent invites Roma bid
The agent of Carlos Henrque Casemiro has informed Roma that they can sign his client for as little as €5 million.
The Sao Paolo midfielder has been heavily linked with a move to Serie A, with Roma, Inter and Milan already showing interest.
The player’s agent Sabatino Durante believes that an offer in the region of €5 million should prove sufficient.
“As things stand right now, Roma have not made any formal offer for Casemiro,” Durante told Radio Mana Mana.
“If they really want to invest €5m in the lad, then they’ll prove they have a keen eye for talented young players.
“After the Under-20 World Cup, the lad got too big for his boots and his performances dipped.
“Even if in Brazil they are convinced they play the best football in the world, Casemiro is not worth what he was a few months ago, which was €10-12m.
“In fact, even €7-8m might be a bit steep. Roma can get him for a bargain €5m right now.”
Catania reveal Fulham offer for Maxi Lopez
Catania president Pietro Lo Monaco has confirmed that Fulham have made a formal bid for striker Maxi Lopez.
The Argentine forward is widely tipped to leave the club in January and the Elephants are ready to cash in on him.
Serie A champions Milan were believed to be closing in on the 27-year-old, but they are now out of the picture.
Catania have now confirmed that they are seriously considering a bid from Premier League side Fulham.
“On Maxi Lopez there are not any developments yet, but an offer has been received from Fulham and we are looking at it,” Lo Monaco told Radio Mana Mana.
“We are waiting to see what the Italian clubs will do. AC Milan are definitely out, while we will see what happens with Fiorentina.
”Lazio? I am not sure they need Maxi.”
