Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas has accepted transfer requests from Nicolas Anelka and Alex.
The Portuguese boss has not handed the pair many first-team opportunities this season and after the Blues’ 3-0 win at Newcastle United on Saturday, he announced that the pair would be put up for sale.
This opens the door for sales to take place in the upcoming January transfer window.
“Andre Villas-Boas confirms that transfer requests have been put in by Nicolas Anelka and Alex and have been accepted,” the club posted on their official Twitter account on Saturday.
Brazilian defender Alex has featured in just three Premier League matches for Chelsea this season, with Villas-Boas preferring to use David Luiz to partner John Terry in the heart of the side’s defence.
Anelka has also taken a backseat at Chelsea this season, with promising youngster Daniel Sturridge often used in favour of the Frenchman.
Anelka has made nine Premier League appearances for the club, scoring one goal.
