Former Manchester City striker Alex Nimely has joined Port Vale on a short-term deal until the end of the season.
The former England youth international, 23, was released by City during the summer.
The 23-year-old has previously spent time on loan at Middlesbrough (2011), Coventry City (2012), and Crystal Palace (2013).
“He has got the pedigree behind him again, he was at Manchester City as a youngster,” said Vale manager Rob Page.
“I spoke to a good friend of mine who says he has quality and we know he is going to bring that quality into the squad so it’s pleasing to get his signature.
“We need to get him fit, he knows that himself, but I think once we do get him fit we’ll have a player on our hands.”
Nimely, who helped City win the FA Youth Cup in 2008, made just two first-team appearances during his stint at the Etihad Stadium.
Villa loan Darren Bent to Brighton
Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert has defended his decision to loan Darren Bent to Championship side Brighton amid the club’s ongoing struggle to score goals.
Villa (3-3-6) have scored just six goals, two less than newly=promoted Burnley, in 12 English Premier League matches this season.
With Benteke back in the team, Lambert is hoping the Belgium international can get back among the goals, while creating chances for the likes of Andi Weimann and Gabby Agbonlahor.
When asked if Bent’s days in the top-flight are over, Lambert said: “No, listen, I don’t know. Darren wanted to go out on loan about a month ago but with Christian Benteke being suspended we had to keep him here.
“It gets Darren’s career going again and that’s why I loaned him to Fulham last year, to try to get him going. But Darren wanted to go himself as well.
“Christian is coming back after Saturday and I think Gabby Agbonlahor and Andi Weimann will find their feet again in terms of goalscoring.
“Charles N’Zogbia is playing pretty decently and Joe Cole is nearly fully fit. So there are certainly goals within the team, we just need to find the solutions to win games.”
Lambert added: “I play a certain type of football and in a certain way and Gabby has been playing well up there himself, Andi can do it as well, Christian is coming back so there are three guys there that are in front of him.
“There’s young Callum Robinson who’s come back after doing really well at Preston so I’ve made the decision for that to happen.
“We just play a different way. Darren came to me a month ago saying he wanted the chance to play more games, which I agreed to do.”
Villa’s next four league fixtures are as follows: Burnley (away), Crystal Palace (away), Leicester City (home), and West Bromwich Albion (away).
A goal of seven points from the aforementioned four fixtures, starting with an away win at Burnley, seems more than reasonable for the Claret and Blue.
