Alexander-Arnold only focused on injury comeback amidst Madrid speculation, says Robertson

Andrew Robertson insists Trent Alexander-Arnold is solely focused on his recovery from an ankle injury, despite constant speculation linking him with a move to Real Madrid.

Alexander-Arnold’s contract at Anfield expires at the end of the season, and he is heavily tipped to make the switch to the Spanish giants on a free transfer.

The England international missed the EFL Cup final defeat by Newcastle United with an ankle injury, which also ruled him out of the Merseyside derby win over Everton in midweek.

And Robertson, who is adamant nobody is any the wiser regarding his future, believes his fellow full-back’s attention is purely fixed on getting back to fitness ahead of the latter stages of this season.

“Trent’s head is not great because he’s injured,” the Scotland skipper said. “He hates being injured. None of us like being injured, but it hurts Trent a little bit more. That’s all he is focused on.

“It is impossible for me to say we have not seen all the noise and everyone commenting on it. But for us, our focus is for him to get back fit and healthy.

“Once he does that, what will happen, will happen. No-one knows that yet. People can talk and speculate, but for us, we want Trent back very soon.”

Liverpool are 12 points clear of second-place Arsenal at the Premier League summit, ahead of Sunday’s clash with Fulham at Craven Cottage.

The Reds require just 13 points from their final eight matches to land their second title in six years, but Robertson knows the job is far from done.

“You guys talk about the 12 points, but we talk about the next three points,” he said. “Every game becomes bigger for us. Every time we win three points, the gap becomes bigger for us.

“We have eight games left. Every time we pick up three points, it brings us closer to where we want to be. But we are still a long way off that.”
