AZ Alkmaar have extended their unbeaten run to 11 games with Friday’s 0-2 victory at FC Groningen.

AZ were the stronger side throughout most of the match at Groningen’s Euroborg stadium and took the lead through a Mendes da Silva header on 27 minutes.

Groningen, who lost 3-0 to Willem II last week, again failed to convince and AZ easily controlled their lead. Louis van Gaal’s side went on to get a second when Ari struck home with three minutes left to play.

AZ are first in the Eredivisie with 29 points from 13 games, but NAC Breda could catch up again if they beat Sparta Rotterdam on Sunday.
