Everything is in place for Oscar Tabarez to continue as Uruguay coach, the country’s football federation said Monday.
Tabarez guided Uruguay to fourth place at the World Cup – their best finish in 40 years, but the 63-year-old – in his second spell as coach after taking them to the last 16 at the 1990 finals – is now out of contract.
Federation president Sebastian Bauza said: “We must continue this project.
“Tabarez agrees, all the ingredients are there for this project to continue,” Bauza told the website of Tenfield, the company that holds the rights to broadcast Uruguay’s matches.
Uruguay’s next game is a friendly against Angola on August 11.
