All smiles for Kompany

Vincent Kompany said it was all positives for Manchester City’s after their 6-1 demolition of Norwich City on Saturday.

The emphatic victory saw a hat-trick for man-of-the-match Carlos Tevez and a double for his Argentine compatriot Sergio Aguero, before Adam Johnson added a late sixth late on.

And the ruthless performance made City’s captain confident about his side’s long-term prospects.

“I’ve seen so many people fight on the pitch we gave everything today, and that is all I need so I am happy with that,” Kompany told Sky Sports.

“I think enough has been said and all we have to do is to go out there and play. Not too much talking, just perform.

“I think we realised that for a couple of months we didn’t perform at our best. But you saw today, even guys like Carlos (Tevez) coming back in and Kun (Aguero) upfront had a great performance, not just by the goals they scored but by their work rate.

“In the defence we were strong and in midfield we won our battles so that was very positive.

“We are happy and everyone has got a smile on their face today.”

Kompany was also reluctant to speculate about the possibility of city rivals and Premier League leaders Manchester United dropping points in their two games before Mancini’s men take to the field again.

“I don’t care (if they drop points), we’ve said for the last six games that we just need to show what we are capable of and finish the season with no regrets, and therefore we will need to perform at our very highest,” he said.

“It says a lot about how we wont to finish this season, it says a lot about how we want to start next season, so that is great.”
