West Ham United boss Sam Allardyce has revealed he is insure whether Manchester United midfielder Darren Fletcher will choose to join the Hammers during the January transfer window.

West Ham United boss Sam Allardyce has revealed he is insure whether Manchester United midfielder Darren Fletcher will choose to join the Hammers during the January transfer window.

The Scotland international, 30, is reportedly nearing an exit from Old Trafford amid speculation linking him with the Hammers, Valencia and West Bromwich Albion.

Allardyce has spoken to Fletcher’s agent, but insisted he has yet to speak with the player.

“I don’t know whether he will come to be honest. It’s in Darren’s hands,” Allardyce said.

“I haven’t spoken to him. I’ve spoken to his agent.”

Big Sam added: “We’ve had no permission to speak to Darren.

“He’s got quite a few clubs interested in him so when he makes his mind up everyone will know.

“I don’t know what the timeline is. If any of the other packages offered to him are accepted then we would accept that.

“Or if they hadn’t made their mind up or were negotiating somewhere else that would be it. We can’t wait forever.

“I always think at this stage of the window, if you do get something nailed on you have to take it because you might end up with nothing if you don’t.”

Fletcher has made 12 appearances in all competitions for Manchester United in 2014/15.

Delph signs new Villa deal

England international midfielder Fabian Delph has put pen to paper on a new four-and-a-half year deal at Aston Villa.

Delph, whose contract was set to expire at the end of the season, had been reportedly attracting interest from the likes of Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur but opted instead to stay at Villa Park, much to the delight of manager Paul Lambert.

“When you get someone like Fabian – who might have had the possibility of going elsewhere to pastures new – to have him commit is a massive, massive coup for us,” said Lambert.

“No-one expected it. I think everyone thought Fabian was going to go and we would have to get someone else in.

“I don’t think anyone saw this coming.

“But it’s been something we’ve been trying to do, as I have always said.

“It’s great for Aston Villa. It’s great for Fabian. I think this is a massive, massive step.”

Delph, 25, has started 11 English Premier League matches for Villa this season.

In other news, Arsenal on the verge of completing the signing of Brazilian centre-back Gabriel Paulista from Villarreal, according to manager Arsene Wenger.

“The deal is on the line and I think we’ll get over the line tonight or tomorrow,” said Wenger following the Gunners’ 3-2 win over Brighton in the FA Cup fourth round on Sunday.
