(GSM) – According to L’Equipe, Sam Allardyce is interested in bringing Monaco striker Eidur Gudjohnsen back to the Premier League. The Blackburn manager had worked with Gudjohnsen previously during his time at Bolton.

Allardyce is desperate to bolster his strike force having managed only 20 goals all season and sees Gudjohnsen as the ideal man to solve his attacking problems.

The 31 year-old has been living a tough time at Monaco and has failed to score in 6 matches, having managed only 8 appearances since his summer move from Barcelona.

He was close to joining his former team-mate Gianfranco Zola at West Ham last summer but opted for a spell in France instead. South African striker Benni McCarthy may well be on his way out of Ewood Park to enhance his chances of featuring in his nation’s squad for the World Cup. McCarthy’s move will open the door to Gudjohnsen’s arrival at Blackburn.

Allardyce set the ex-Chelsea star on the path to fame when they worked together at Bolton 10 years ago. After impressing at Bolton, the Iceland striker moved to Chelsea, where he won two Premier League titles, before heading to Barcelona.
