AC Milan coach Massimiliano Allegri has told his players to focus on Saturday’s Serie A match with Chievo and not get distracted by the forthcoming Champions League clash with fellow giants Real Madrid.
“We’ll have time to think about Real Madrid,” said Allegri on Friday.
“It’s not a case of saving our energy or making calculations. The match against Chievo is the first in a series of challenges that will lead us up to the derby (against Inter Milan on November 14).
“The table is beginning to take shape and we have to reach the top. In the coming months, we’ll see which teams will fight for the title.”
Milan host Chievo on Saturday before travelling to face Real in Spain next Tuesday for a game that could go a long way towards deciding which of the two storied clubs tops Group G.
Allegri also confirmed that star striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic, a loan signing from Barcelona, would feature against Chievo at San Siro after overcoming a groin injury.
“He feels good,” said Allegri of the Swedish frontman.
“We’re not talking about his groin anymore. He rested himself well during the international break and got over his tiredness. He only played one match with Sweden (a 4-1 defeat by the Netherlands).”
Milan are currently fourth in Serie A, two points behind early leaders Lazio.
