Allegri wary of Napoli strength

AC Milan coach Massimiliano Allegri believes that Napoli have a stronger squad than last season and will be strong title contenders this campaign.

Both sides earned valuable away draws in the Champions League midweek, with Thiago Silva’s last-gasp equaliser earning the Serie A champions a 2-2 draw versus Barcelona.

Allegri is confident his team can be at their best for their visit to face Napoli on Sunday, despite a lengthening injury list.

“It is going to be an important game as Napoli have reinforced the midfield and strengthened the squad, so I consider them candidates for the Scudetto,” the former Cagliari man said.

“Our options are limited by injuries, but we will go to Naples looking to play a great game. It is in these situations that the side can prove its strength. Don’t forget we started slowly last season too, then found our balance and won the title.”

Milan will be without strikers Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Robinho, while Massimo Ambrosini and Kevin-Prince Boateng have also picked up injuries.

“Gennaro Gattuso also has a problem with his optic nerve. Tomorrow evening we will step on to the field with two strikers, who will be Alexandre Pato and Antonio Cassano,” he added.

The Milan club could only manage a 2-2 home draw against Lazio in their opening Serie A game of the season last weekend.
