(GSM) – Lazio boss Edy Reja has said that he would welcome Werder Bremen striker Hugo Almeida to the Rome club if he became available.
The 26-year-old, who will be out of contract in the summer, has yet to agree an extension with the Bundesliga outfit.
The prospects of landing the Portugal striker has left Reja considering to allow young Czech striker Libor Kozak to leave the Stadio Olimpico this summer.
“Lazio have a great attack but if (Libo) Kozak leaves, we might find a solution by looking for a physically stronger player,” Reja told Sky Italia.
“Hugo Almeida has all the characteristics we are looking for in that respect.
“He won’t renew his contract with Werder Bremen and if he arrives it could be a great purchase for us. He’s a player that I really like.
“But we would have to consider if he will fit into our pay structure here as we are operating with a wage cap now.
“The president is trying to keep everyone on the same level as not to create tensions in the dressing room and I think that is the right policy.”
Almeida, who began his career with Portuguese giants Porto, made a switch to Bremen in 2007 following a successful loan spell the previous year.
