Portugal striker Hugo Almeida on Wednesday pledged his future to Bundesliga strugglers Werder Bremen and has ruled out a transfer in January’s winter break.
The 26-year-old, who has won 33 caps for Portugal and scored 12 goals, is under contract at Bremen until June 2011 and has a market value of around seven million euros (nine million US dollars).
Spanish giants Real Madrid, Sporting Lisbon and Valencia are all reported to be interested in signing him.
He has scored nine league goals this season, even though Bremen have struggled for form and exited the Champions League on Tuesday despite their 3-0 home win over holders Inter Milan.
“I am staying,” he told Bremen newspaper the Weser Kurier with his side 10th in the Bundesliga.
There is a risk Almeida could leave Bremen for nothing on a free transfer next June, but the crowd-favourite has said that is not an option.
Bremen face league leaders Dortmund on Saturday.
