Almeria have sacked Juan Manuel Lillo as coach after Barcelona thrashed the struggling team 8-0 on Saturday.
The 45-year-old – who is the youngest person to coach a Primera Liga club having been 29 when he guided Salamanca to promotion – had been at the club since midway through last season when he was hired to keep them in the top flight, which he succeeded in doing.
However, they now lie third from bottom of the table after 12 matches with just one win.
“Juan Manuel Lillo was relieved of his duties as coach because of a series of bad results in the past few weeks,” the club announced in a statement.
The club did not announce a successor to Lillo, who is the fourth Primera Liga coach to be fired this season, joining Antonio Alvarez (Sevilla), Jesualdo Ferreira (Malaga) and Jose Aurelio Gay (Real Zaragoza).
