Newcastle United have officially confirmed the signing of Miguel Almiron from Atlanta United. The 24 year old Paraguay international has signed a deal that will keep him at St James’ Park until 2024, with the fee believed to be a massive club record of £21 million. This marks yet another huge moment in a week full of surprises for the Magpies, who appear to be in the process of slowly but surely turning their season around. Almiron has proved to be quite the hit with Atlanta during his three years with the club, and now, he’ll attempt to translate that success into the Premier League in what will be his first taste of European football.
Manager Rafa Benitez was clearly quite insistent on getting some deals done prior to the January transfer window deadline, and it’s not hard to see why. The club have been somewhat struggling towards the bottom of the Premier League table, but after this signing, there’s certainly cause for optimism.
