Alonso close to new Chelsea contract

The Mirror understand that Marcos Alonso is on the verge of signing a new contract with Chelsea.

The Spain international is closing in on his hundredth appearance for the Blues, having signed from Fiorentina in the summer of 2016 while he has scored fifteen goals for the club and was part of the squad that won the Premier League in 2017, and the FA Cup a year later.

He has been an ever present since Maurizio Sarri replaced Antonio Conte as manager at Stamford Bridge and is set to be rewarded for his consistency.

Since returning to England, the twenty-seven-year old has made his senior Spain debut winning his first cap in a 6-1 friendly win over Argentina back in March though he wasn’t part of his country’s squad for the World Cup in Russia.

Chelsea are currently joint-top of the Premier League, behind Manchester City on goal difference and can be backed at 9/1 to reclaim the title.
