Catalan daily newspaper Sport understands that Barcelona are looking at Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Alphonse Areola.
The Catalans are bracing for life after Claudio Bravo and while Marc-Andre ter Stegen will take over as number one, they will also recruit another shot-stopper.
Barcelona are believed to be in talks with Valencia over the signing of Diego Alves, but in case they fail to lure the Brazilian to Camp Nou, they will turn their attention to Alphonse Areola.
The Frenchman was in excellent form during the loan stint with Villarreal last term, and coach Luis Enrique believes he would be a very good addition to the squad.
Areola has since returned to PSG, where he will challenge Kevin Trapp for a starting berth, but an offer from Barcelona may be too good to refuse.
Areola made a total of 32 La Liga outings for Villarreal last term, keeping no fewer than 15 clean sheets in the process.
