Villarreal striker Jozy Altidore was added to the US lineup for Tuesday’s friendly against Brazil, US Soccer announced Thursday, after Jermaine Jones of FC Schalke withdrew from the selection.

The Americans also added Los Angeles Galaxy defender Omar Gonzalez to the lineup in place of Columbus Crew defender Chad Marshall, who also pulled out of the roster for the match at suburban New York’s new Meadowlands Stadium.

Altidore played in all four World Cup matches for the United States in South Africa last June and has scored nine goals in 20 matches for the American squad.

Jones is recovering from a shin injury and will continue training with the German club to prepare for his first competitive matches in more than a year.

Gonzalez, last year’s Major League Soccer Rookie of the Year, could earn his first cap for the US squad.

It’s not like Jermaine Jones WANTED to withdraw.
