The Metro understands that Chelsea will loan out teenager Ethan Ampadu next season.
The centre-back, who can also play in midfield has been on the fringes of the Blues’ first team in each of the last two seasons, racking up a handful of appearances largely in the cup competitions and in Europe.
His only Premier League appearance so far came as a substitute in a 3-1 win over Huddersfield Town in December 2017.
Prior to his switch to Stamford Bridge, Ampadu played thirteen times for Exeter City – the club where he began his career.
New Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has admitted that he attempted to sign him whilst at Derby County last season, and has declined to include him in their preseason tour of Japan with a temporary deal elsewhere looking likely.
Having represented England at U16 level, Ampadu is now a senior Wales international and won his eight cap for Ryan Giggs’ side in last month’s 1-0 defeat to Hungary.
