(GSM) – Carlo Ancelotti has not ruled out a swift return for Petr Cech after the goalkeeper was substituted during Chelsea’s 2-1 defeat at Inter Milan.
The goalkeeper collapsed on the hour mark of the Champions League tie at the Giuseppe Meazza after rolling the ball out and had to be stretchered off.
There was nobody around the Czech Republic international when the incident occurred and initial reports suggested the shot-stopper had suffered a serious knee injury, which would have meant a long lay-off.
Cech was replaced by Hilario after 61 minutes, and the reserve goalkeeper may now be thrust into a prominent role in Chelsea’s pursuit of trophies at home and in Europe.
Ancelotti has indicated that there is hope the problem may not be as severe as it had first seemed.
“We don’t know now,” he said. “We have to wait some days. We have to do a check control on his calf. We will take a decision and we will know how long he has to stay out.”
Asked if he would be fit for Saturday’s game against Manchester City, he said: “I don’t know. We don’t know. We have to wait.”
