PSG head coach Carlo Ancelotti has prioritised winning the Ligue 1 title over the Champions League.
The big-spending Paris outfit lost out on the Ligue 1 title last season to Montpellier but Ancelotti is confident his side will be able to win their first title since 1994.
Ancelotti took over the reins from Antoine Kombouare at the end of last year and said it was the vision of the club’s owners that attracted him.
“The project of the club because here is a club with and owner who wants to build a fantastic team,” the former Milan and Chelsea coach said.
“(They want to build) a top team in Europe, so the project is interesting and we are working for that.
“I think we have the possibility to improve quickly because we have a lot of possibility to invest and the owner is motivated to building a strong team.”
PSG have been drawn with Dinamo Zagreb, Dynamo Kiev and FC Porto in Group A of the Champions League, but Ancelotti insisted the club’s priority was still to win the league.
“The priority is to win the league, to win the championship of France, and after that to be competitive in the Champions League,” the Italian said.
“But it’s the first time after a long time that this club plays in the Champions League, and really we don’t know what’s going to happen in that competition for us.
“We have a possibility to do really well, but Champions League is a very particular competition.
“We have to play, and step-by-step we can understand what we’re going to do for this season.”
