Ancelotti won´t quit Chelsea

Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti will not walk away from his job at the Premier League club, despite reports linking him to Serie A club Roma.

Roma boss Claudio Ranieri handed his resignation on Sunday evening after his side threw away a 3-0 lead at Genoa to lose 4-3 and slip to eighth on the Serie A table.

While Ranieri has handed in his resignation, it is expected that the club will ask him to remain in charge until the end of the season.

The news led to Ancelotti, who spent eight years at Roma as a player, to be heavily linked with the job.

But when quizzed if he would ever quit Stamford Bridge he simply responded: “No.”

“I am not here to consider my own position. It is the owner who has to consider my position. I just have to work and try my best. The pressure is football – you have to be able to manage at moments like this.”

Ancelotti preferred to focus on Chelsea’s Champions League clash in Denmark on Tuesday against FC Copenhagen.

The first-leg clash could potentially be tricky, with Chelsea struggling for form this season.

The reigning Premier League champions sit fifth in the league this season, outside the Champions League spots, and were dumped out of the FA Cup in a fourth-round replay against Everton at home on Saturday.

But Ancelotti said his side will progress to the Champions League quarter-finals by qualifying against Copenhagen, who have not played a competitive fixture since early December and have never reached the round of 16 in the competition before.

“Chelsea will not go out against Copenhagen,” he said.

“Playing this game gives us the right kind of pressure. We have 180 minutes coming up to win this tie. We have to maintain our levels, stay together and work hard together.”

“Maybe this game will be a good moment to get a result and, obviously, keep our season alive. We are out of the FA Cup, and we haven’t done well in the Premier League. To win the Champions League will not be easy, but it brings great motivation for all of us.”
