Anderlecht have expressed their interest in signing Belgian midfielder Steven Defour from FC Porto, reports La Derniere Heure.
The Belgian giants are reportedly searching for a new midfield general and they have made the 25-year-old their number one target.
Anderlecht chiefs are aware that the player also has other offers as he hopes to leave his current employers, but they are not giving up on his signature.
And with the player’s agent suggesting that his client wants to join a club where he would be considered a key member of the side, the Belgian club do seem to have a realistic opportunity of winning the chase for Defour.
“He plays on regular basis, but he wants more. If he leaves, it will be to a club where he has a good chance to earn a starting berth and where he can be a leader,” agent Paul Stefani explained to La Derniere Heure.
“I still have not heard from Anderlecht, but it is a beautiful club. I do not know if a return to Belgium is possible. There will also be interest from abroad.”
Prior to joining Porto in the summer of 2011, Defour had spent five years at Standard Liege, one of Anderlecht’s main rivals on domestic stage, but that does not seem to present a problem for either party.
