(GSM) – The final round of Champions League qualifying is a big step closer for Anderlecht after the Belgians beat Welsh champions The New Saints 1-3 on Tuesday.

While Gent stood no chance at Dynamo Kyiv, Anderlecht successfully defended Belgium’s honour at Wrexham’s Racecourse Ground.

Sacha Kljestan hit the net for Anderlecht after seven minutes and Jonathan Legear made it 0-2 another 11 minutes later.

Craig Jones pulled one back seven minutes after the break but Matias Suarez restored the gap in the 73rd to leave his team on pole position for a spot in the next round.

The return leg will be played in Brussels on August 3.
