Nicolas Anelka may follow former international teammate Thierry Henry to Major League Soccer when his Chelsea contract expires.
Anelka, 31, joined Chelsea in January 2008, helping the club to the English Premier League title in 2009/10 and also winning the FA Cup twice.
His contract is to expire at the end of the 2011/12 season.
The Frenchman’s European Championship-winning colleague Henry moved to MLS franchise New York Red Bulls in July after a three-year spell with Barcelona.
According to Anelka’s brother and agent Claude, the former Paris-Saint Germain and Real Madrid may be set to follow suit.
“Nicolas told me he is interested in playing in the United States,” Claude Anelka told The Daily Star.
“We could see him crossing the Atlantic, and I’m serious when I say this. He asked himself what he will do once his current contract runs out.”
“The US is quite something, and a dream destination. He says he will give it a try, even though he would earn less money than in somewhere like Qatar.”
