(GSM) – Nicolas Anelka has reportedly retired from international football after being sent back home following his publicized spat with manager Raymond Domenech.
Anelka directed a foul-mouthed tirade at Domenech at half-time during France’s 2-0 defeat at the hands of Mexico.
After refusing to issue an apology to the manager and fans, Anelka accepted his exclusion and wished the team well.
However, Sky Sports reports that the 31-year-old Chelsea striker has decided to hang-up his international boots.
Ever since he made his debut in 1998, the forward has played more than 60 games for his national team.
Anelka will now focus on his club career with Chelsea as he will play no part in France’s Euro 2012 campaign.
On the other hand, the much-criticized France boss will leave his post after the World Cup finals and will be succeeded by former Bordeaux manager and 1998 World Cup winner Laurent Blanc.
