LOSC Lille midfielder Angel Gomes, set to become a free agent when his contract expires at the end of the season, has turned down an offer to join West Ham, according to the Guardian.
The Hammers had offered the 24-year-old a contract worth £100,000 per week, but wages are not thought to be the only issue for the 24-year-old who evidently has higher ambitions, amid claims of Barcelona monitoring his situations as well.
Graham Potter, who succeeded Julen Lopetegui as the West Ham manager earlier this season, is keen to reconstruct his squad, particularly the midfield section. To that end, the club are prepared to let several players go, as they strive to reduce their wage bill in order to comply with the Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PRS).
However, Potter will apparently need to look elsewhere for a player to build his midfield around, with none of the sources familiar with Gomes’ situation confident about the player moving to the London Stadium this summer.
