Borussia Dortmund have been dealt a blow with Mats Hummels set to miss their Champions League quarter-final clashes with an ankle injury.
Jurgen Klopp’s side were defeated 2-1 at Schalke in the Revierderby, and the Germany international had to be withdrawn at half-time due to a problem picked up in the first 45 minutes.
Dortmund fans will have hoped that the 24-year-old would be back in action in time for their next European clash in early April, but Hummels has torn his right ankle ligament and could miss both legs of the tie.
Klopp’s men thrashed Shakhtar Donetsk 3-0 on Wednesday to win 5-2 on aggregate in the last-16 and secure their spot in the last eight of the competition.
Dortmund medical staff member Dr Markus Braun has confirmed that the centre-back is looking at a mid-May return.
