Another blow to Spurs’ striker hunt

A report from Talk Sport suggests that Valencia have rejected a bid from Tottenham for star striker Roberto Saldado.

There is no question that Andre Villas Boas is desperate to boost his attacking options for the new English Premier League season after failing to secure a permanent move for Emmanuel Adebayor.

At the moment, Jermain Defoe is the only senior striker at the club.

It is being suggested that Spurs were willing to pay the La Liga side 30 million Euro’s, which would trigger a release clause in the player’s contract.

However, it seems as though Saldado is keen to stay at Valencia.

He scored 27 goals across all competitions last season, including 17 in the Spanish top flight which led the club to a third place finish. This means of course, that they will be playing Champions League football this campaign.

That could be one of the reasons that the forwards is not keen to head to North London. Either way, it looks as though Villas Boas will need to continue his hunt for a new front man.

Defoe is likely to be the man leading the line for the first few matches as the season starts for Spurs on Saturday.
