Another depressing deadline day for Evertonians

While fans of clubs all over Europe scour websites and television channels with excitement over new signings, fans of Premier League Everton will again be left disappointed.

We could only look on with envious eyes as Chelsea spent £50 million on Fernando Torres and Liverpool replaced him with £35million Newcastle striker Andy Carroll.

Compete

We are a realistic bunch we don’t expect to be competing with Chelsea in the transfer market but we can’t even compete with the likes of Aston Villa, Stoke and Fulham at the moment. It’s a sad state of affairs for one of English football’s oldest clubs.

Loan

Everton boss David Moyes announced at the start of January that any arrivals would be loan signings. Unfortunately we haven’t managed to sign any senior player’s on-loan.

The only players who have arrived are young Sporting Lisbon defender Eric Dier on-loan and Greek youngster Apostolos Vellios from Greek side Iraklis Thessaloniki for a small fee, no disrespect to the youngsters but their signings weren’t exactly what Everton fans were hoping for.

Money

People say that Everton are a club who aren’t heavily in debt, yet the club seem to be perennially skint. The Toffee’s get good attendances and are still a big club in the history of English football, despite what some Liverpool fans would say.

Investment

It seems to be a mystery why nobody has decided to invest money in Everton. Surely a club with the history and fanbase of Everton would prove an attractive proposition? It seems that something is putting investors off and I believe some of the blame has to lie at the feet of Everton chairman Bill Kenwright.

Out of his depth

I have no doubt that Bill Kenwright is a true Blue and has done everything he can for the club but it’s simply time for him to move on and allow somebody else to take the club forward. He is completely out of his depth.

He has been running the club on a shoe string budget because he hasn’t even got the funds to compete with smaller Premier League clubs in the transfer market. It’s truly embarrassing at times.

It’s alleged that people have shown an interest in buying the club but they ‘haven’t been the right people’. I don’t know what that means but the way our club is going we desperately need to find new investors as we can’t carry on the way we have been in the last few seasons.

Sold

The fact that Everton have lost Steven Pienaar, Yakubu and James Vaughan in the January transfer window has made it even worse for Blues fans. To lose three first team players and not to sign replacements is an absolutely slap in the face for Everton fans.

Manager

I am a big fan of Everton boss David Moyes and I believe he has done a fantastic job at Goodison Park. The squad we now have is far stronger than the one he took over and he has managed to achieve regular top six finish’s in the Premier League in his time in charge.

He has had to do it without major financial backing. He has however just got on with the job and managed the best he could on such a small budget. With financial backing I believe David Moyes could take us further forward.

I wouldn’t blame him if he decided to walk away from the club. He has had to manage with his hands behind his back in recent seasons but still produced a decent side which at times this season has produce decent performances.

Consistency

Now that the transfer window has shut we can now concentrate on gaining a consistent run of form. Consistency has been a problem this season for the Toffee’s but hopefully we can now perform at a consistent level for the rest of the season and drag ourselves up the Premier League table.
