Everton startlet Anthony Gordon has not been turning up for training this weekend, and according to Fabrizio Romano, he will insist on leaving the club before the transfer window closes next week. Newcastle are reportedly interested in his services as they seek to strengthen their hold on a place in the Premier League top four.
Only last month, Frank Lampard spoke about the 21-year-old forward being on the verge of agreeing a new contract, but many things have changed at Everton since, including Lampard losing his job as the Toffees continue a run of extremely poor results and appear set for a desperate battle to avoid relegation. There have even been rumours about owner Farhad Moshiri being prepared to sell the club for anything over £500 million, but the British-Iranian businessman has strongly denied there being any truth in them.
Gordon’s decision to try and force a way out obviously only adds to the growing list of problems at the club, topped arguably by the need to appoint a new manager as soon as possible. Reports name former Burnley boss Sean Dyche as the leading candidate for the job.
