Manchester United F.C. have confirmed star winger Antonio Valencia has penned a new three-year deal at Old Trafford, with an option to extend for another year.
The Ecuador international, 28, joined United from Wigan Athletic for a fee of around £16 million in the summer of 2009. He has since bagged 21 goals in 191 appearances for the Red Devils en route to securing two English Premier League titles and one League Cup.
“I’m really pleased Antonio has signed a new contract. His contribution to the team since he joined the club in 2009 has been fantastic,” assistant manager Ryan Giggs told the club’s official website, manutd.com.
“Antonio is a very powerful player with great speed and versatility. He is very professional in his approach to training and I am delighted he has committed his future to the club.”
Valencia, whose form has deserted him since being named Manchester United Players’ Player of the Year and Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year in 2011/12, is looking forward to working with newly appointed manager Louis van Gaal next season.
“My time at Manchester United has been like a dream come true,” Valencia said. “To be the first Ecuadorian player to win the English Premier League was a very proud moment for me and for my country.
“I am so happy to have signed a new deal and am looking forward to working with Louis van Gaal. There is great team spirit within the club and we are all determined to get back to winning ways.”
Like Van Gaal, the 28-year-old winger is currently on international duty with Ecuador at the World Cup. He will join United for the club’s pre-season tour of the United States upon the conclusion of the tournament in Brazil.
Chuks Aneke joins Zulte Waregem
Belgian Pro League side S.V. Zulte Waregem have announced the signing of former England Under-17 international midfielder Chuks Aneke on a three-year deal.
Aneke, who was released by Arsenal at the end of last season, was linked with a host of English clubs after enjoying a tremendous season-long loan at Crewe Alexandra in 2013/14.
The 20-year-old netted 14 goals in 40 League One appearances for the Railwaymen last term, helping the club stave off relegation.
“This is a great opportunity for me and I will do my best to take it as soon as possible,” Aneke told Zulte’s official website.
“I think Belgian football will suit my playing style.
“Zulte Waregem give opportunities to young players and this club, after some good conversations, was a logical choice for my future development.”
In other news, Zulte have completed the signing of highly-rated defender Sefa Isci from Anderlecht.
