Aouar happy at Lyon

Houssem Aouar is adamant he is happy at Olympique Lyon, referring to both the club and the French city where he was born as his own, as quoted by the Mirror.

The 22-year-old was linked with several clubs over the summer transfer window, Arsenal most of all as the closing of the market drew closer. Most reports suggested at the time that the move didn’t happen because the Gunners weren’t able to match Lyon’s asking price having just completed the signing of Thomas Partey from Atletico Madrid for €50 million, and that after previously forking out another €30m on Gabriel Magalhaes. However, there have also been claims that Aouar actually rejected the move in order to stay at Lyon.

“I do not see how I could be unhappy in my city, in my club. That is something that I do not understand,” the midfielder said.

“I am very happy to be here, I took the decision to stay with the club that formed me, I savour every day I have here. Everything that I want, is to put this club back in its rightful place with my team-mates.

“I am very happy to be here, we have an enormous amount of ambitions for this season.”

These words seem to pretty much rule out any possibility of a January move. His contract with Lyon doesn’t expire before the summer of 2023.
