April 2nd: Saturday’s Football Accumulator – 6/1

With Europe’s elite making their return from the international break this weekend, we have a host of noteworthy meetings from across the continent. So, for those of you looking to stick on a Saturday acca, we have found a handful of helpful tips that are worth keeping an eye out for.

Saturday April 2nd

BST 15:00 Chelsea vs Brentford

Starting with Saturday’s hosts, last seen heading into the international break with a 2-0 win away at Championship outfit Middlesbrough on FA Cup duties, Chelsea will simply be looking to carry on from where they left off. While the Blues might be dealing with some very public issues behind the scenes at Stamford Bridge, Thomas Tuchel has been filled with praise for his side’s performances on the pitch. Managing to extend on their Champions League adventure thanks to a 4-1 aggregate victory against Lille, the Premier League giants should be smelling the chance to pick up west London bragging rights here. In fact, along with winning each of their previous six outings before March’s international break, Tuchel’s men have also won 12 of their last 13 outings across all formats. Breezing their way to another top-four finish this season, the one-time Borussia Dortmund boss will be calling on his squad to cash in on a Brentford side that have shown some recent inconsistencies. Last seen crashing back down to earth after a routine 2-1 defeat away at Leicester, the Premier League debutants have won just a pair of their last 12 matchups against top-flight opposition. With Chelsea picking up a 2-0 victory when they faced off against Thomas Frank’s side back in December while on EFL Cup duties, we’re backing a similar outcome on Saturday afternoon.

Tip: Chelsea win by 2+ goals @ 1/1

15:00 Wycombe vs Doncaster

While Wycombe might have been last seen back on March 19th having to settle for a 0-0 stalemate away at Portsmouth, the Chairboys do have their sights set on finding a route back into the play-off places. Despite enduring what was a hugely worrying February blip, it does appear that Gareth Ainsworth’s side have largely put those issues behind them. Marking their return to action on Saturday afternoon sat just two points adrift of the top-six, the Buckinghamshire-based outfit are in the midst of a five-match unbeaten run. With their recent purple patch highlighted by a thumping 3-0 win against Cambridge last month, fans around Adams Park should be boosted by their side’s recent displays at the back. Handed what is a golden chance when they return to action this weekend, it should be noted that Wycombe have conceded just a single strike on their five-match unbeaten run. Claiming a deserved 2-0 win when they faced off against Saturday’s opponents back in October, a struggling Doncaster look set for another huge task here. Last seen getting hit with a 1-0 loss against Charlton soil, the Rovers appear to be freefalling their way down the League Two. Sat four points adrift of safety, Gary McSheffrey’s men have failed to win any of their last five outings, including a 4-0 drumming away at Cheltenham on March 5th.

Tip: Wycombe win to nil @ 23/20

18:00 Lille vs Bordeaux

Starting with Saturday’s hosts, while Lille might have all but relinquished their Ligue 1 crown this season, they do mark their return from the international break enjoying a domestic boost. Although Les Dogues might have seen Chelsea end their Champions League adventure last month, Head Coach Jocelyn Gourvennec has seen his side skyrocket their way up the standings. Last seen on March 19th when picking up a deserved 1-0 victory away at Nantes, they now sit just two points adrift of finding a route into the European spots. Unbeaten in each of their last six Ligue 1 matchups, a run that stems back to the start of February, Gourvennec should be hugely excited by his side’s continued displays at the back. In what has become a remarkable defensive run, it should be noted that Lille have recorded a clean sheet in each of their previous six appearances. With attacking talisman Jonathan David gaining a host of plaudits from across Europe this season, they should be looking to cash in on a Bordeaux side in the midst of a nightmare run. Last seen heading into the international break with a 2-0 loss at home against Montpellier, Saturday’s guests sit rock-bottom of the table and still six points adrift of safety. Given what has been a huge recent gulf in class between the two sides, we’re backing a routine home win here.

Tip: Lille win & under four goals @ 5/6
