Juan Arango says he is more deadly from a free kick than Cristiano Ronaldo, after helping fire Borussia Monchengladbach to victory.

The talented attacker scored as ‘Gladbach overcame Hoffenheim 2-1 at home, with Arango notching up the match-winning goal from a set-piece in the 79th minute.

The Venezuelan maestro believes he now deserves to be mentioned in the same breath as his Portuguese counterpart, and aims to net more free kicks than the Madrid star during the new season.

“I do not need to hide behind Cristiano Ronaldo in terms of free kicks,” Arango told Bild.

“Last season he scored two direct free-kick goals – I scored three. And this season, I want more – it’s a goal of mine.

“I don’t need to remain behind for half an hour after training to practice. I just need a few minutes. I just know how to do it,” he said.
