Are Liverpool fans happy with being a midtable team?

Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish has blamed ‘fatigue’ for yesterdays terrible 2-1 home defeat against Wigan.

It was Liverpool’s third defeat out of their last four Premier League games and it’s starting to get worrying for Reds fans.

Fatigue

The Liverpool boss told Sky Sports: “ I just don’t think we’ve had the freshness that we’ve had in many other games. Today, I think it’s the toll of three games in six days, which is difficult for the big number of them who participated in each of the three games.

“We tried to play, we tried to pass it, but we just couldn’t play. They’re all capable of passing to their team-mates, very capable of precise passing.

“We just need to brush ourselves down and get on with it and if we do want to take this club forward we have to be able to deal with three games in six days. To do that you need a bit of luck with injuries and getting people in to strengthen the squad and make it a bit deeper if we’re going to have that sort of schedule. ”

Squad

Liverpool should have a big enough squad to cope with injuries and tiredness, unfortunately they don’t seem to at the moment. Kenny Dalglish spent a fortune in the summer on players like Stewart Downing, Charlie Adam and Jordan Henderson. All three players have been hit and miss in their first season at the club.

These players haven’t performed well enough for the Reds this season. The trio has proved themselves to be very average players over the course of the season. Striker Andy Carroll has proved a massive flop in his 15 months at the club. Dalglish’s policy of signing mainly British players is just not working.

The only two signings from the Scot that have proved relatively successful are full-back Jose Enrique and striker Luis Suarez, and the Suarez deal was basically complete before Dalglish was installed as Liverpool boss.

Cups

Liverpool have already won the Carling Cup this season and are in the semi-finals of the FA Cup. If Liverpool can win the FA Cup then surely their season will be judged a success. However the cup wins will just be covering over the cracks of a poor Premier League campaign.

Most Liverpool fans are pretty knowledgeable about the game and they realise that winning the two cups doesn’t mean the club has moved much further forward from last season.

Legend

Kenny Dalglish is a club legend and the board realise that he is doing a decent job but he’s not doing an outstanding job. Dalglish won’t be sacked while he is still doing a decent job. It would take a really dramatic fall from grace for Dalglish to be sacked by Liverpool.

I don’t think many Liverpool fans would want Kenny to be treated badly. They wouldn’t want him sacked but I’m sure Kenny Dalglish will know when he has taken the club as far as he can. I think he will know when to walk away from the job.

Summer

This summer will be a vital one for Kenny Dalglish and Liverpool Football Club. The Reds are an ambitious club with a big history and should really be higher in the Premier League table than seventh.

Rightly or wrongly the Liverpool fans expect better than that. The signings that Dalglish make this summer will determine whether Liverpool can challenge at the top of the Premier League table next season.

Kenny Dalglish’s signings in his second spell have been poor so far. However this summer he will have the chance to put things right. I have no doubts that Liverpool will improve their squad this summer and that the team will finish higher up in the Premier League table next season.

Are Liverpool fans happy with being a midtable team but winning trophies?

I am a big Reds fan from overseas and I must admit that the last two games were very poor displays. To lead 2-0 over Rangers and surrender the lead and eventually lose it in added time was really disapointing. When you have one of the weakest offense in the EPL and you score two on a day, you must find a way to hold the lead, they could not vs QPR. Yesterday’s game vs Wigan is no exception. Liverpool had great possession in the 1st half, but could not finish well their passing play and it came back to haunt them.

I must agree with you David that the summer signings will be vital. I am one of those who wanted to see a little more from Aquilani, but he has been sent out on loan the last 2 seasons with Juve & AC Milan. This guy is creative and could improve the midfield, but for some reason, either Hodgson and Dalglish did not see him in Liverpool line-up.

Also, they must find a way to make Carroll produce. The lad lacks confidence at times and i really doubt that having a lone striker will help their poor finishing. A new formations or tactics must be looked at seriously because both Suarez & Carroll have huge potentiel. They just haven’t found the style of play that can suit them and I really think they would benefit from having both in the starting eleven with Kuyt & Bellamy brining something from the bench as they are two good veterans.

They must find a way to collect a few 3 pointers until the end of the season, because the likes of Stoke and Everton have been in good form lately and could finish ahead of Liverpool.
