The Daily Mail is reporting that Inter Milan could be prepared to offer Maicon to Manchester City in exchange for Nigel De Jong.
The Serie A club are desperate to add the Dutchman to their midfield and are also keep to offload Maicon and his high wages.
They are aware that City boss Roberto Mancini has shown an interest in Maicon in the past two and are now preparing to put a swap deal on the table.
As for De Jong, he has been an important player for the Premier League Champions over the last couple of years, but might find first-team football hard to come by this season.
He only has one year left on his current deal at the club and Jack Rodwell – a summer signing from Everton – appears to have overtaken him in the pecking order.
Therefore, this potential deal could be in the best interest of both Manchester City and Inter Milan.
There are a lot of issues to sort out first though. For example, will there be a fee involved? Can both players agree personal terms?
It is a fascinating prospect and it needs to move quickly with only a week of the transfer window remaining.
