Are Manchester City ready to make it a big five?

Manchester City have spent big this summer and have had a tremendous start to the season but the big question is are Manchester City ready to make it a big five rather than a big four? I know this question has been asked but it needs to asked again as City have won four games out of four in the Premier League.

Manager Mark Hughes has managed to put together a really good squad all be it at a high price. Even with all the money in the world available you still have to make those individuals in to a good team. Hughes has done that really well so far.

He has mainly stuck with experienced Premier League players. One player who has found a fresh impetus is striker Emmanuel Adebayor. Love him or hate him on his day he is unplayable. He has shown a fantastic commitment to the cause so far.

Although his behaviour against his old club yesterday was really idiotic. Firstly putting his studs down Robin Van Persie’s face and then nearly inciting a riot by running the length of the pitch to celebrate a goal was truly insane.

Its just a shame that the striker has spoilt his start to the season with those two incidents. He has apologised since then which is better than nothing. The FA however are likely to come down on him like a tonne of bricks. Nevertheless even if the Togolese forward does receive a ban Hughes still has good attacking options to carry on City’s good start to the season.

Defeating Arsenal shows that on their day they can compete against probably the weakest of the ‘Big four”. However Arsenal had enough chances to win the game twice over and with better finishing could have ran out winners. Its a bit ironic that Adebayor scored for City when Arsenal failed to take so many of their chances.

It remains to be seen if Liverpool, Manchester United and Chelsea will be so wasteful with their chances when they come up against City, but I doubt they will. The other three won’t be so forgiving when playing the Citizens. It sounds strange to say after they have defeated Arsenal 4-2 but they will need to improve their performances if they are going to make it a big five rather than a big four.

Another question is will it be still be the big four without Arsenal? I don’t think so. Arsenal are too strong just to sacrifice their place at the top table of English football. Arsene Wenger will make sure that Arsenal progress. The club is in the right hands. I don’t think some Gunners fans agree at the moment. However he hasn’t done at bad job since arriving in North London in 1996! I have to admit I admire Arsene Wenger and what he has done at the Gunners in the last 13 years.

I also must admit I had reservations about whether Mark Hughes would be a success at Manchester City but it looks like he could take City up to that next level and challenge the top teams in the league. I don’t think he currently has the players at his disposal to make it in to the Champions League. However with a couple of signings in the January transfer window they could surprise a few people.

Ok far point maybe I exaggerated a bit there. You have to admit Arsenal could have won the game with the chances they had though.

not too sure about arsenal could have won the game twice over, city could have had at least another three or four more themselves, does that mean arsenal should have got sixteen?
