Wolves boss Mick McCarthy has been receiving intense abuse in recent weeks and I think its harsh.
Wolves have been going through a poor run of form and manager McCarthy is getting the blame for those poor results.
Fury
At Wolves’ last match against Swansea you could feel the negativity coming from the stands at Molineux.
While watching the game live the TV cameras focused in on a small band of young Wolves fans who thought they would let the Wolves boss know their feelings.
They were shouting and hollowing because of a substitution when the team were 2-0 down. Those fans must of felt pretty stupid when Wolves managed to turn the game around to draw 2-2. These young kids thought they knew better than an experienced Premier League boss. They obviously don’t or they would be sitting in the dugout, not in the stands.
Fans have a right to criticise the team and the manager because they pay good money to watch games but getting on their back at every opportunity won’t help the team perform any better. The players are currently lacking confidence and fans getting on their back won’t help them, if anything they will hinder their confidence.
Honest
Mick McCarthy is one of the most honest men in football. He doesn’t mince his words and he has challenged anybody who wanted to come down and fight him to come to the Wolves training ground. The Wolves fans have obviously upset and annoyed Mick.
Tough
Mick McCarthy was always a tough competitor on the pitch as a player and he has taken that into his managerial career. He seems like a nice guy but I’m sure I wouldn’t want to get on the wrong side of him. McCarthy wears his heart on his sleeve and is an emotional guy.
Realistic
I’m not sure what Wolves fans are expecting from their team. They may be on a bad run of form but every time team goes on a bad run at some point of the season. The Wolves fans need to realise that the clubs main aim at the moment is staying in the league, just like eight or nine other teams in the Premier League.
With or without Mick McCarthy success for Wolves this season would be to stay in the top flight. The league is getting tougher and a midtable finish would be a big achievement.
Steady
Wolves boss Mick McCarthy has steadied the club in recent years. Wolves are now in their third consecutive season in the Premier League, their best run in the top flight since the early nineteen-eighties.
I would say that is success for Mick McCarthy and the club. Before Mick McCarthy had arrived the club were always near the promotion positions but didn’t manage to get up to the top flight until the former-Sunderland boss took over.
Money
Mick McCarthy hasn’t exactly been given a fortune to spend in the transfer market. Granted he managed to bring in the likes of Roger Johnson and Jamie O’Hara this summer but those deals cost the club less than £10million.
That’s not a lot of money for a Premier League club to spend, especially when you consider the amount of money that comes in via television rights.
Good
Mick McCarthy has put together a relatively good team. The likes of Jamie O’Hara, Kevin Doyle and Roger Johnson are all good solid Premier League players. Johnson hasn’t had the best start to his Wolves career but like the rest of his teammates he is currently short of confidence.
When the team regain their confidence I’m sure the likes of Doyle and Johnson will start to perform to a higher level than they currently are.
Survival
I can’t see Wolves being relegated this season. I think there are three worse sides in the Premier League. And when the players regain their confidence Wolves will start to get better results. However the team need their fans firmly behind them and the manager.
That support needs to start straight away. If everybody pulls together then I’m sure Wolves will survive and Mick McCarthy will still be at the helm of Wolves next season.
Are the supporters correct to question Mick McCarthy?
