Atletico Madrid star striker Sergio Aguero has turned down the opportunity to play for Chelsea and instead prove his loyalty to current club Atletico according to reports on website Goal.com.
Atletico were determined not to let go of their star player this summer and rejected any bid that came their way. However, due to a clause in Aguero’s contract the player could be bought if a club bid over 55 million Euros, which Chelsea matched.
Despite Chelsea offering enough to sign the Argentinian, Aguero turned down a move to England and will continue his development in Madrid.
Roman Abramovich continues to keep busy in the transfer market despite the fact that Chelsea remain managerless at the moment and it is believed that Aguero was one of Chelsea’s main targets as Chelsea look to bring in fresh young talent.
Aguero, 20, has been labelled as one of Argentina’s most exciting prospects and finished the season in fine form scoring 19 goals to make him La Liga’s 3rd highest scorer.
A number of other top European clubs such as Inter Milan and Manchester United were also said to be interested in the striker, however it seems that Aguero is content in Madrid, at least for another year.
