(GSM) – Velez Sarsfield successfully defended second place in the Argentinian Primera Division with Sunday’s 2-3 win at Banfield.

Uruguayan forward Santiago Silva opened the scoring for Velez after just five minutes, but his goal was canceled out by Gabriel Mendez in the 19th.

Juan Martinez then restored Velez’ lead three minutes later, but again it would not last as Marcelo Bustamante leveled shorty before the break.

The winning goal came in the 72nd minute as Jonathan Cristaldo beat ‘keeper Bologna for a 2-3 final result.

Velez are currently three points behind Primera Division leaders Estudiantes.
