Highly rated Argentina international winger Angel di Maria has become Jose Mourinho’s first signing as new Real Madrid coach, the Spanish club confirmed on Monday.

The 22-year-old arrives from Portuguese giants Benfica on a six-year deal.

“Real Madrid and Benfica have come to terms for the transfer of Angel di Maria. The player will sign a six-year contract,” the club said in a statement.

No transfer details were given but Spanish media reported it was worth 25 million euros.

A versatile left-winger, di Maria was named the Best Player of the Portuguese league last season after helping the club to the league and cup double.

He began his career at Rosario Central and moved to Portugal in the summer of 2007.

Di Maria is currently with the Argentina national team at the World Cup in South Africa, where he has been playing on the left side of a central midfield three.
