Argentine legend appointed Catania boss

Serie A side Catania have appointed Argentine legend Diego Simeone as the new first team coach after they parted with Marco Giampaolo last night.

On Tuesday night, the Massimino outfit parted company with coach Marco Giampaolo by mutual consent, with Diego Simeone quickly appointed as his successor.

The 40-year-old, who’s been out of work since leaving San Lorenzo in April, will be officially presented later today when he will sign a one-and-a-half-year contract.

“Catania Calcio can announce they have assigned technical management of the first team to Diego Pablo Simeone, who is bounded with a contract until June 30, 2012,” read a statement on the club’s official website.

“The new coach and the men of his staff will be officially unveiled to press today”

Diego Simeone is seen as one of the most talented young technicians in the world, and after proving his worth in his native country, this will be his first coaching job abroad.
