Argentinos Juniors and Estudiantes de la Plata held each other to a 1-1 draw in the semi finals of the Copa Sudamericana on Thursday. A day earlier, Internacional of Brazil beat Chivas of Mexico 0-2.

The Argentinian clash between Argentinos and Estudiantes ended without winner, leaving the decision for next week’s return leg.

Estudiantes took the lead through an own goal from Sebastian Alberto Torrico in the 26th minute, but Juan Ignacio Mercier equalised shortly after the interval.

The visitors had Desabato sent off with a second yellow card in the 74th minute and Argentinos player Sabia was handed a straight red card in the 88th.

The tournament final is likely to be an Argentina-Brazil encounter as Internacional were simply too strong for Chivas de Guadalajara in Mexico.

Nilmar broke the deadlock after 70 minutes and Alex doubled the advantage eight minutes later, leaving the Mexicans with a giant task to handle in the second leg next week.
