(GSM) – Argentinos Juniors won their first Argentine tournament title in 25 years on Sunday as their 2-1 victory at nine-man Huracán sealed the Clausura championship by a point over second-placed Estudiantes.
Needing victory to seal the title, Argentinos Juniors came out with a passion and took the lead in the 23rd minute on Juan Ignacio Mercier’s strike.
Huracán kept the game within reach, but Paolo Goltz’s second yellow in the 67th minute reduced the home side to 10 men and made it tougher for them to come back.
Any hopes for them – and for Estudiantes – were dashed in the 78th minute when Facundo Coria found the back of the net to make it 2-0.
Pablo Jérez was sent off for a second booking in the 84th minute, but Huracán still managed to pull one back in the 88th minute through Alan Sánchez.
Estudiantes could not overcome Argentinos Juniors at the end despite Mauro Boselli’s hat-trick in a 4-1 win over Colón.
Boselli scored three goals in the opening 49 minutes as Estudiantes stormed in front, and Enzo Pérez added the fourth in the 54th minute.
