Arnesen plots Hamburg rise

Hamburg sporting director Frank Arnesen has vowed to improve his side’s performances after a disappointing start to the season.

Hamburg are second last in the Bundesliga table, after losing two of their first three matches, including last weekend’s 5-0 defeat to Bayern Munich.

The club welcome bottom placed Cologne to the Imtech Arena on Saturday and Arnesen, who is assisting coach Michael Oenning, is confident the team can improve.

“It is a new team and it needs the time to settle, nothing has changed according to that,” Arnesen said.

“We have to work hard and we do so every day. I believe it’s important. Where can we improve? I think we have great players, but there is always something which can be worked on.”

“It’s something new, a lot of players left, young ones joined. But I believe Michael will achieve here, but needs the time to do so.”

“Of course it’s the job to complain after a game like on Saturday. I started here knowing it’ll be difficult. I signed for three years and I said I hope Michael will be with me for that time. And therefore I have no reason to change anything.”
