Daily Mirror has suggested that Premier League rivals Arsenal and Chelsea are locked in the battle for Penarol midfielder Federico Valverde.
The 16-year-old has yet to make his first appearance for the senior team, but he has shown incredible amount of potential playing for Uruguay youth sides.
Valverde shone at the Under-17 South American Championship, bagging impressive 7 goals in 8 starts for La Celeste.
Arsenal were the first high-profile side to express interest in his services, with the Gunners reportedly ready to start the bidding at £2 million.
They could, however, face stiff competition from the likes of Chelsea and Barcelona, who are keeping a close eye on the talented footballer as well.
Valverde is an attacking midfielder who clearly has a knack for scoring important goals, although it remains to be seen how he will fare against players much older then himself when he is promoted to the first team set-up.
