Ivan Toney has returned to action following an eight-month suspension with a deft goal from a free-kick in Brentford’s 3-2 victory over Nottingham Forest on Saturday. The goal has sparked plenty of controversy, with Forest later contacting the PGMOL to demand an explanation as they believe Toney had displaced the ball before taking the free-kick.
The 27-year-old has been heavily linked with Arsenal and Chelsea going into the January transfer window, as both those clubs seek to improve their attacking output for the second half of the season. Toney himself recently spoke about moving on when the time is right, but according to the Mirror, he doesn’t believe that time has come. He has no intention of asking to leave the Community Stadium this month, and plans to stay with the Bees for the rest of the 2023/24 campaign, before reassessing his options.
It will certainly be interesting to see if that proves true when the window closes next week.
