Premier League giants Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are locked in the battle for Everton hotshot Ross Barkley, according to L’Equipe.
The England international has just one year left on his current deal and he was recently offered a lucrative new contract.
But, despite Everton offering to make Barkley their highest paid footballer ever, the attacking midfielder rejected a £100,000 per week contract, clearly hoping to leave Goodison Park for greener pastures.
Even though Ronald Koeman then moved to sign Davy Klaassen from Ajax, the manager reportedly wants Barkley in his squad for the new season, although the Toffees will probably try and sell their prized asset.
It is believed that Arsenal and Tottenham could make a move in the coming weeks, having been hot on the player’s trail for quite some time.
